Requests List

This page is for users of this site to request ‘possible’ future releases. There are a few basic rules that MUST be followed, any posting that do not follow them will be deleted.

  • Only Matrix encoded albums can be requested
  • Only a maximum of three titles allowed in a list
  • Acceptance of a list does not mean that any, or all, of the titles listed will be released. This is all down to having a particular title, or having the possibility of acquiring said title
  • We are unable to accept transfers of matrix encoded material

  2. hello again dear Matrix, nice idea to put a request page ! by the way, The Flame is an insane good album with great quad sound (i knew Brother Records from the Beach Boys album “Surf’s up”, bought in Paris in the eighties … “Surf’s up got an sacd release few years ago, in multichannel, fantastic). Are all Brother Records quad ??…. But this is a request page, and here it comes: i would love to listen in original quad sound to “Duit On Mon Dei” from Harry Nilsson, especially the song “Easier for me”, a very deep memory about my family, a long time ago, although it feels like yesterday.. . This album was a “quadradisc”, with cd-4 system i think (not sure). The reference by discogs: https://www.discogs.com/de/release/4508113-Nilsson-Duit-On-Mon-Dei. Not a very rare and expensive quad lp, i would buy it but i dont have the required quad turntable with cd-4 + sq modulator, + special cartridge, and that is quite some heavy money…… Merci again, Matrix, or should i say “Quad Lord” if i may call you so … take care, take it, take one, take rolling.. . with my greetings full of sympathy, Alain

    1. Hello

Concerning the “Beach Boys” surround encoding on some of their albums, until a few years ago it was thought that they were encoded using the DY system, but then the bands engineer ‘Stephen W. Desper’ annouced that his invention, called ‘The Spatializer’ was used during the mixing stage of a number of albums: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Desper

It would seem that the process is not compatible with any other quad, or later, system.

As to your request, and as you pointed out, it is a CD-4 Quadradisc, and not a matrix system LP so it cannot be added to the list.

Of course, if some brave soul started up a similar type of site dedicated to Quadradiscs……

    2. On Tidal there are unbelievable Lots of quadradisc Albums in 360RA Format. A few from Harry nilsson as well… (And Bridge over troubled water)
If you want to, then there is a way to decode Them to mch-wav.

But the Quality of the albums Not availeble in discrete quad on this site here is outstanding. Every time i wonder about the magic…

      1. Thanks for the information.

I’ve not ventured into the downloading services, primarily because i know that they’ll only make available the titles that are guarenteed to make money, which leaves roughly 99.9% of the total quad output completely ignored. The majority of my quad favourites will never be released via the streaming services, SACD’s or Bluray.

That was the main reason for starting this service, oh so long ago.

I do realise that i may well be missing out, although i do purchase Mike Dutton’s SACD along with a number of the recent Bluray releases, but of late i don’t seem to have the time to actually listen to the disc’s i purchased recently mainly because of the time taken to track down and test the recent discovered “Unmarked Quad” albums, along with normal albums, decoding them etc .

Of course, that’s not to stop others enjoying the recent quadraphonic revival, as long as their equipment is compatible with the various formats used.

      2. hello Markus, i just found your comment, thank you for the advice (“Tidal”). i checked the site, it needs a registration and a payment first (20 dollars a month / annual basis, which is quite some money altogether, 240 dollars for one year). apart from the financial side now. you write that the files are in (a very mysterious) 360RA format. You assure that there is a way to decode them to mch waves, and that theres an unbelievable amout of quad albums. my few questions to you: have you tried some albums, are they really quad, can you name an example of a quad album you downloaded, is it really such a big choice available, and finally do you think its worth more than 200 dollars for a year ? thanks for your reply, have a nice day, hier in Austria, right now hot summer afternoon 30 degres, saturday 8th july time 16:15 greetings Alain the frenchman in vienna

  3. well pardon my ignorance, i unfortunately dont know a thing about matrix and non matrix… all i know is to enjoy a good quad sound, may it be in cd4, in q8, in sq or whatever … no luck for me that Nilsson fooled around by rca … is another request possible ? if yes, then that one: “Moonshot” from Buffy Sainte Marie, an intense deep album from needless to say a fantastic singer song writer, on Vanguard VSQ-40003 quadraphonic series. suspense ……. And now some fun …..: “I Dig a Pygmy” by Charles Hawtrey and the Deaf Aids, Phase one, in which Doris gets her oats” …. “And Take ’em to the bridge, Stay on the scene !” Have a nice morning / noon / evening / night when ever / where ever….. 1. But, as an update to my previous answer, a few of “Jean Jacques Perreys” tracks from that album were used on the early Vanguard demonstration albums, in both DY and SQ

  7. Here are two little known titles that I have always wanted to hear in Quad despite the fact that I am not really a big fan of the music. I have friends who are fans of these and would enjoy a good decode.

Mary – Mary Travers – Warner Bros 1971 – This has long been rumored to have been encoded in EV or an early Quad matrix. The rumors can finally be resolved now. It was re-issued on CD by Rhino in 2008 as part of a 3 album set from Peter, Paul and Mary, titled The Solo Recordings. The CD version is excellent and does not have any LOUDNESS WAR problems.

Beverly Sills – Music Of Victor Herbert – Angel/EMI 1975 – SQ matrix – This is one where early copies were marked as SQ Quad and later ones were not. However, it seems highly likely that all stereo releases are SQ including the CD version. Again, the CD is excellent.

    1. The “Mary Travers” album was given a quick test a while ago, and showed no signs of being encoded, but until it’s given a full test it’s not possible to say if it is either EV-4 or Stereo.

      Like

  8. Is there a reason for the delay on testing the Mary Travers title? No response on the Beverly Sills title?

    Like

    1. One reason would be time, until the request the title was on the “When time permits” list. it is now on the “To be looked at” pile. As to the second title, the fact it has been requested means it too will be on the “To do” list, which it certainly wasn’t before.

SoulSeek is too worse for you? The part no one wants is let PC on several months and the cost of energy bites your pocket. I have six Google acounts stop, all empty and working, I can share FREE 90 GB of space for you, if you want it. Think about.

    1. Regarding the “Isaac Hayes” album, there’s a pretty good chance it will reappear.

Thanks for the offer of space but a service is under going tests at the moment which has an interesting benefit, restoration of files deleted. After recent happenings that option seemed just about right.

In regards to the 27 albums you wanted to download, just choose three and add your list.

By the way: why dont you zip the cue-file as well. it would do the tagging and cutting much easier.

  13. to mister DreamingSpires aka The Matrix: hello … (goodbye is for later).. i said this, you said what, i said well and you say is that so, oh no …
My special request today 10th august: could you reactivate an album from here, this very place, from The Matrix “Ali Ba Ba gorgeous cavern”: Jun Fukamachi – Introducing Jun Fukamachi. it is on page 14. The torrent is still there to download, what i did, but once opened in the torrent client there is no source.
After some days nothing. The data weights 468,48 MB. I don’t know if to do so (reactivate) requires for you much time and stress, if it does then let’s just forget about it. If that would be for just a very short time, (as you please), for instance a suggestion, today or tomorrow from 2pm to 4pm austrian time, would it be easier ? If not, then, i say goodbye, you say hello, anyway thank you for all what you already give us, take care Alain

  15. Hi again – hope my post on adding bass to 5.1 made send (re: Hawaii 5-0). Now to business, an old perrenial – 1975 The Who Tommy soundtrack. Rumours abound it was released in quad – do you know or have access to it? Thanks again for the traesure chest of releases! Howard

    1. Ah, that rotten old rumour, i thought i’d buried it long ago.
Many years ago i performed a test on as many different different pressings/releases from around the globe, and of different ages, going back to the first pressings. I grew to hate that album, and still do.
Two things came out of it though, they were all from the same master, and that master was bog standard STEREO.

There has never been any proof that the soundtrack was mixed in quad, it appears it’s all down to the use of “QS” in the end credits, which was a specific version designed for cinema use (remember this is all per-Dolby) and also incompatible with the “QS” system developed for home use.
The DoDo is dead, as should this rumour be!

      1. Ah yes the Quintophonic system used in the theatres. I remember it as saw it in London on release – a phone rang on a rear speaker and i turned round! I wonder what mix is used on the restored 4K version doing somerounds in theatres? Thanks again!

  17. Quincy Jones – You’ve Got It Bad Girl – A&M – QU-53041
US LP copies of this album have an SQ sticker on the cover. Picture here:

The album was also released on quad 8-track in the US and in Japan on LP in CD-4. It contains “The Streetbeater” which was the theme song to the TV show “Sanford and Son”. It’s still an outstanding bit of 1970s Funk.

  18. Hello Again (Naturally) Mister Matrix, also known as Mister Dreaming Spires ! (not to be confused with Alone Again (Naturally) also known as Gilbert O’. I hope you re doing fine, Its been a while since last time, and i come to you today with one humble request. You posted it already on march 12th 2021, it is on page 14, it is a Sansui QS, it weights 419,57 kg or mb depending on hich side you belong, it is, yes, you guessed it already, of course, you decoded it, from the genius Nino, who composed the tunes for a very unknown and impossible to find japanese movie of 1971 made by director Korejoshi Kurahara, thats it, you named it: Original Soundtrack – Sunset Sunrise. Nino Rota is less famous than Ennio Morricone, but equally important. Take just a few examples, all masterpieces: La Dolce Vita, Rocco, Boccacio, Otto e Mezzo (8 and a half), thats Nino… And then… thats when i discovered his music: the Godfather ! I love Nino Rota. Thank you if you reactivate the torrent, it has since months and right now 0 seed and one leech, im afraid the poor leecher c’est moi, its me…. Take care and hope to see hear from you soon à bientôt, yours truly, Alain

Also, while I’m making bold requests, I did notice that Discogs mentions there are no less than four “Hollywood Gold” volumes… 🙂

    1. It has not been forgotten.
Performing all the work that goes on behind the scene takes a lot of time, much more that people could possibly realise.
Conserning requwsts, it may seem that some items appear before others, which simply means that particular title had already been done, more than likely as a personal choice, so is used to fulfill requests.
The rest of the “Requests” are done as soon as is possible, given other restrictions within the workflow behind “The Matrix”

    1. Like all of the BBC Transcription Services quad releases, done for the USA radio market, they tend to be quite rare, depending on which of the titles were rented by the American Broadcasters.
